New to Pilates? - Here's what to expect

Pilates is for every body — and especially for people who think they’re “not flexible enough” or “not fit enough”. If you’re new, you’re in exactly the right place.

 

What to Expect in Your First Class

Your first session is all about helping you feel comfortable, confident, and supported.

  • Before you come to the class I will send you a Physical Activity Readiness Questionairre (PARQ)

    in which I’ll ask a few quick questions about your health, movement history, and goals

  • In your first class you will be welcomed into a friendly, relaxed environment by me, Amy - an APPI certified Pilates instructor
  • You’ll learn the basic principles of Pilates — breathing, alignment, and gentle core activation

  • Movements are slow, controlled, and tailored to your level

  • You’ll never be asked to do anything you’re not ready for

  • Expect to leave feeling taller, calmer, and more connected to your body

Most beginners are surprised by how good they feel after just one class.

What to Bring

You don’t need much — just yourself and a willingness to move.

  • Mats are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

  • Comfortable clothing you can stretch and move freely in and socks (grip socks are handy but not essential)

  • A bottle of water

  • A light layer for relaxation at the end

If you’re unsure about equipment, don’t worry — I’ll guide you.

 

How I Support Beginners

You’ll never feel lost or left behind. My teaching style is gentle, encouraging, and highly personalised.

  • I offer clear demonstrations and step‑by‑step guidance

  • Every exercise has easier and more challenging options

  • I check in with you throughout the class

  • I help you build strength safely, at your own pace

  • You’re welcome to ask questions at any time

My goal is to help you feel confident in your body — not to push you into shapes or movements that don’t feel right.
